It will use your EN-El3e battery. If you end up not getting enough frames per second then go spent the money for the faster newest most expensive battery (don't forget another charger $$ - hum is the new charger backwards computable - oh dear need more ac outlets). Below is the doc. from Nikon, on this battery pack:
<br />
<br />"MB-D10 Multi-Power Battery Pack for D300 includes MS-D10EN for use with EN-EL3e battery (sold separately), and MS-D10 for use with 8 AA batteries (not included; accepts 1.5 V LR-6 (Alkaline), Lithium (FR6), Ni-MH (HR6) or Ni-Mn (ZR6))"

Having the ability to shoot a little faster is nice in sports photography but really not needed in most cases. If you want to get the most out of your D700/300 get it which is the main reason why I did. The vertical grip is good but I can do the vertical shots without it just as good. The extra battery life is nice when I went on a week long trip. I took about 1000 pictures so I could of gotten by if I just brought my charger along or a extra battery pack. For the contents I decided to just go with the Nimh double AA batteries. I had some already with the SB-600 speedlight and knew how well they worked.

The grip itsself is great, the battery life is pretty short though, Nikon needs a longer lasting batter that lasts at least 2+ hours.

Merchant refused to accept ruturn of product even though unused or opened from original packaging. Poor customer service and handling of issue. Do not recommend purchase from this individual.
